1. What is Denti.AI Detect?
Denti.AI Detect is automated diagnostics for images in dentistry.
- It is easy to quickly analyze intraoral and extraoral 2D dental radiographs (periapical, bitewings, and panoramic images).
- It can assist in detecting, highlighting, and categorizing regions of interest (ROI) within the teeth area, which include caries, apical radiolucencies, and bone levels as a second reader*.
*The device is not intended to replace a complete clinician's review. The final diagnosis and treatment tactics should not be based only on artificial intelligence data. First of all, the patient's complaints and clinical examination data should be taken into account.
- It is useful to have a second opinion AI to reduce the number of missed pathological findings on radiographs.
- This can also be useful for demonstrating to patients — to visually explain the patient's problems*.
*Before demonstrating the AI predictions to the patient, the doctor needs to review the findings on their own to identify possible false predictions. Users must always use their professional interpretative skills when reviewing the AI-detected regions.
⚠️ The AI system can show marks that do not represent caries, apical radiolucency, or bone level (false positive predictions). Also, some existing pathologies might be missed (false negative predictions).
This device is intended for use by trained dental practitioners who are responsible for making the final clinical decisions.
The device is intended to be used with images from patients 22 years and older without remaining primary dentition.
The device is not intended to show bone level, caries, and apical radiolucencies on 3rd molar teeth.
1.1 How to start?
In the fully integrated version, an interface allows information to flow between Denti.AI and the practice management software (PMS).
From the patient chart module of the PMS, the images can be loaded to the Denti.AI application by clicking on the integration icon.

⚠️ Opening the App can take some time, so you may need to open it in advance.
- Choose a patient in PMS.
-
Click on the notification to open the App. When the App is ready, a notification appears (patient images download automatically):

Or click the Denti icon on the taskbar at the bottom of the page:

-
Click the "Open Imaging in Denti.AI" button in the Denti.AI app popup.

-
After opening the app, you will see the FMX view from the patient's last visit by default. If you want to change the visit, see step 6. The automated analysis has already been performed — no need to press any button.

-
Check the position of all images. If any image is not rotated correctly, adjust its position using the rotation tools next to each image in the FMX view. Hover over the image to see the rotation tools.
⚠️ It's crucial for correct analysis to have the proper orientation for images.
When the rotations are complete, click the "Re-Analyze" button in the top right corner (after using the rotate tools, the "Re-Analyze" button will appear and start flashing).
-
Click on "Select visit", located in the lower-left corner, to see the history of patient images (if available) according to the visit date. After opening the App, you see the latest visit by default.

2. User interface
2.1 FMX view
After opening the app, you will see the FMX view from the patient's last visit by default. The automated analysis has already been performed — no need to press any button.

⚠️ Here you can quickly zoom in using the mouse wheel.
Here you can see:
- Image controls (Section 8) — general controls, including Go to collections, Upload Image, Copy link, and FMX.
- User profile — the user information panel (selection of dental notation systems).
- Toolbar (Section 4) — tools used for image enhancement.
- Sidebar Tools (Section 5) — tools used to hide some predictions.
- Image Viewer — shows all images of the patient chosen in the PMS and automatically detects Apical Lucency, Caries findings, and Bone Level. Each image has rotation tools, which appear after hovering over the image.
- Collection — shows the Patient ID (the same number as in the PMS).
- Select visit — shows the visit dates of the patient and allows you to open the history of patient images (if available) according to visit date. After opening the App, you see the latest visit by default.
Hover over the predictions until the popup with additional data appears:
- Type of pathology with AI confidence
- Caries location (surfaces of the tooth)
- Bone level measurements with a range

⚠️ The percentage shows how confident the AI is in the presence of a suspicious finding inside the bounding box. The AI confidence score does NOT aim to define the likelihood of abnormality.
By double-clicking, you can open any image and go to the Single Image View.

2.2 Single Image view
Shows images and findings of a chosen patient. This screen consists of the following blocks:

- Image controls (Section 8) — general controls, including Go to collections, Upload Image, Copy link, and FMX.
- User Profile — the user information panel (selection of dental notation system).
- Toolbar (Section 4) — tools used for image enhancement.
- Sidebar Tools (Section 5) — tools used to hide some predictions.
- Image Viewer — shows the currently selected image and automatically detects Apical Lucency, Caries findings, and Bone Level.
- Navigation Panel — buttons or thumbnails to go through images within the current collection.
- Select visit — shows the visit dates of the patient and allows you to open the history of patient images (if available) according to visit date.
- Collection — shows the Patient ID (the same number as in the PMS).
⚠️ Use ⬅️ ➡️ on the keyboard to go to the next or previous image.
Here you can:
-
Hover over a tooth in the Image Viewer until the popup with additional data appears:
- Type of pathology with AI confidence
- Caries location (surfaces of the tooth)
- Bone level measurements with a range

⚠️ The percentage shows how confident the AI is in the presence of a suspicious finding inside the bounding box. The AI confidence score does NOT aim to define the likelihood of abnormality.
Colored frames around the tooth:
- Green frame — there are no pathologies on the tooth
- Yellow frame — 15–33% bone loss
- Red frame — indicates a pathological finding on the tooth, and not only on this image
If there are no pathologies found in the viewed image but the frame is red, the AI predicted the pathology on another image that contains this tooth (to see it, click on the tooth).

- Click on the tooth to open the pop-up window with information about the current tooth: all images where the chosen tooth is present and all the corresponding findings detected for the tooth on each image. After clicking on the tooth, predictions of past restorative treatment also appear (green mask on the image).

Left: A cropped image enclosing the tooth and surrounding area, and the tooth number.
Right: All the images taken during the visit where the same tooth is present, and the findings detected on each of the images.
To delete a finding: click x to the right of the image thumbnail:

⚠️ The finding will be deleted from all the images where this tooth is present.
If you click on the image thumbnail, you open it.

3. Predictions
The Denti.AI Integration App detects and highlights suspicious regions of interest (ROIs) that may reveal abnormality:
3.1 Caries

With affected surfaces:
- Mesial
- Distal
- Lingual/Buccal
- Occlusal
and AI Confidence (in percent).
Hover over a tooth until the popup with additional data appears.
⚠️ The percentage shows how confident the AI is in the presence of a suspicious finding inside the bounding box. The AI confidence score does NOT show the likelihood of abnormality.
3.2 Apical Lucency

With AI Confidence (in percent).
Hover over a tooth until the popup with additional data appears.
3.3 Bone Level
Denti.AI provides automatic measurements (in millimeters and ratio) of the Bone Level for mesial and distal surfaces of each tooth:
- A line connecting two points: CEJ and Bone.
- The ratio between two distances: CEJ-Bone / CEJ-Root. The ratio is rounded to the nearest range. Possible ranges include:
0–15% (green line), 15–33% (yellow line), 33–66% (orange line), and 66%+ (red line). - The distance between the CEJ and Bone points in millimeters.

The CEJ point is defined as:
- Cementoenamel junction for natural teeth;
- Restoration margin (the most apical part of the restoration) for teeth with fillings and crowns;
- Abutment/implant margin (the deepest point of contact between the bone and the implant surface) for implants.
The Bone point is defined as:
- Location of the bone margin adjacent to periodontal ligament space points.
